Overview
ASTM D445 viscosity in 3 minutes, right where the machine is
Measures the kinematic viscosity of new and in-use oils in the field, with automatic cleaning and drying. Guided operation and long-lasting battery.
What it measures
What it measures
Kinematic viscosity
1–2000 mm²/s
Two capillaries extend the total range up to 100 times.
Standards
ASTM D445 / D446 / D7279
Photoelectric method with calibrated capillaries.
Temperature control
ambient to 100 °C
±0.01 °C accuracy with a PT100 platinum sensor.
How it works
Measurement principle
Capillary viscometer (ASTM D445) with photoelectric flow-time detection and automatic cleaning/drying between samples.
1
Constant temperature bathThe calibrated capillary sits in the thermal well, at the target temperature.
2
Timed flowPhotoelectric detectors clock the sample's passage time.
3
CalculationFlow time multiplied by the capillary constant yields the kinematic viscosity.
4
Automatic cleaningThe system cleans and dries the capillary between samples.
How to use
From the case to the result, no fuss
1
Position and power onSet it on a level surface, switch on and set the target temperature.
2
Insert the capillaryPick the viscometer suited to the range and slot it vertically into the well.
3
Inject 300 µlWith the temperature stable, pipette the sample into the tube center and start the test.
4
Wait about 3 minutesThe instrument detects, times and calculates on its own, with guided operation.
5
Let it clean itselfAdd cleaning solution when the screen asks; cleaning and drying are automatic.

Common questions
FAQ
Which liquids does it handle?
Transparent and opaque Newtonian liquids, including new and in-use oil, at multiple temperatures.
How long does the battery last?
Up to 16 hours with control at 40 °C and up to 8 hours at 100 °C.
How often should it be calibrated?
The capillary constant should be verified every two years, by the local metrology authority or the manufacturer.
